The South Carolina Cancer Alliance invites caring, dependable, and community-minded individuals to join us in bringing cancer education, awareness, prevention resources, and early-detection information to communities across South Carolina. Together, we can help reduce the impact of cancer and create healthier communities throughout our state.
Become an SC Cancer Alliance Volunteer Ambassador
As an SCCA Volunteer Ambassador, you can help individuals and families better understand cancer risks, recommended screenings, available resources, and the importance of speaking with a healthcare provider about early detection. Selected applicants may be invited to participate in an interview, orientation, background screening, or additional training depending on the volunteer assignment.
How to Apply
Individuals interested in becoming an SC Cancer Alliance (SCCA) Volunteer Ambassador should submit the following:
1. A completed SCCA Volunteer Application Form
2. A current résumé or brief summary of professional, volunteer, or community experience
3. A short statement explaining why you are interested in volunteering with SCCA
4. Information about the communities, counties, or regions you are interested in serving
5. Your general availability and areas of interest
Volunteer Training
Approved volunteers may receive training in:
- SCCA’s mission, programs, and statewide initiatives
- Cancer prevention and early-detection messaging
- Prostate, colorectal, lung, breast, and cervical cancer awareness
- Health equity and cultural competency
- Confidentiality and appropriate handling of personal information
- Community outreach and public engagement
- Event procedures and emergency protocols
- Approved SCCA Ambassador talking points
- Referring individuals to trusted healthcare and community resources
Ways to Serve
Assignments will be based on community needs, volunteer interests, availability, training, and the requirements of each event or initiative. Volunteer opportunities may be available throughout South Carolina and may include:
- SCCA Ambassador Volunteer
- Community Outreach Volunteer
- Health Fair Volunteer
- Regional Meeting Volunteer
- Event Registration Volunteer
- Educational Materials Volunteer
- Survivor and Caregiver Engagement Volunteer
- Administrative Support Volunteer
- Social Media and Awareness Volunteer
- Special Project Volunteer
Volunteer Ambassadors may assist with:
- Community health fairs and cancer-awareness events
- Educational workshops, presentations, and outreach activities
- Distribution of cancer screening and prevention materials
- Promotion of local screening opportunities and healthcare resources
- Community conversations about cancer risks and warning signs
- Encouraging individuals to speak with healthcare professionals about screenings
- Supporting regional meetings, special programs, and statewide initiatives
- Connecting residents with trusted cancer information and support services
- Helping reduce fear, misinformation, and stigma surrounding cancer
- Sharing SCCA messages through churches, civic groups, neighborhoods, workplaces, and community organizations
Volunteers do not provide medical advice, diagnose medical conditions, or recommend treatment. Their role is to provide approved educational information and connect community members with qualified healthcare professionals and trusted resources.
Cancer affects individuals, families, and communities in every region of South Carolina. Volunteers help SCCA expand its reach and deliver important information in places where people live, work, worship, learn, and gather.

- Individuals who are passionate about health education and cancer prevention
Previous healthcare experience is not required. Training and approved educational materials will be provided.
SCCA Volunteer Ambassadors are expected to:
- Represent the South Carolina Cancer Alliance professionally
- Treat every individual with dignity, respect, and compassion
- Protect confidential and personal information
- Use only SCCA-approved educational materials and talking points
- Avoid offering medical advice or personal medical opinions
- Complete required orientation and training
- Communicate respectfully with staff, partners, and community members
- Arrive on time and fulfill accepted volunteer commitments
- Support inclusive, culturally respectful, and equitable outreach
