Prevention

Cancer prevention lowers the risk of getting cancer. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can protect individuals from cancer and other chronic diseases, and includes things like eating a healthy diet, being physically active, and avoiding tobacco, heavy alcohol use and stress.

Objective

Reduce HPV-related cancers across the state.

Increase the percentage of all people ages 13-17 in South Carolina who are up-to-date on HPV vaccination.

Increase the percentage of all people ages 18-26 in South Carolina who receive appropriate HPV vaccine.

Reduce tobacco-related cancers risks across the state.

2.2a

Reduce the number of South Carolina adults who use tobacco products.

2.2b

Reduce the number of South Carolina youth who use tobacco products.

Reduce skin cancer risks across the state.

Increase the number of educational opportunities addressing skin cancer screening and safe sun practices.

Increase public awareness surrounding nutrition and physical activity to reduce cancer risks.

Increase the number of educational opportunities that promote behavior and knowledge changes to reduce cancer risks.

Increase the number of under-resourced South Carolinians served through state-supported evidence-based lifestyle programs.
