Advance Patient Navigation Coverage and Funding : By 2031, advance state and federal policy that would expand patient navigation coverage in South Carolina to close the pre-diagnosis and survivorship-phase coverage gaps in Medicare and Medicaid and grow funding and training for navigators across the cancer continuum.
Expand Local Smoke-Free Ordinance Coverage Statewide : By 2031, raise the share of South Carolinians covered by comprehensive local smoke-free ordinances from approximately 37% to over 50% (counties) and from 62% to over 65% (municipalities), building the local momentum needed for a statewide comprehensive smoke-free law.
Pass SC Biomarker Testing Coverage Legislation : By 2031, enact South Carolina legislation requiring insurance coverage for medically necessary biomarker testing, utilize model legislation provided by American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network.
Secure Annual Appropriations for the Top Five Cancer Screenings : By 2031, secure annual state appropriations to expand cancer screening access for South Carolina's top five screenable cancers (breast, cervical, colorectal, lung, prostate), prioritizing high-burden communities.
Secure Dedicated State Funding for the SC Central Cancer Registry : By 2031, secure dedicated and recurring state funding for the South Carolina Central Cancer Registry to expand data collection, timeliness, and surveillance capacity in support of statewide cancer planning, advocacy, and research.
Promote Cancer Screening Through Community Messengers and Health Worker Partnerships : By 2031, expand community-based cancer screening promotion in high-burden South Carolina counties by activating trusted community messenger programs and community health workers (CHW) into all SC rural counties.
