Behavioral Health Support Services
At the South Carolina Cancer Alliance, our work extends beyond cancer prevention, screening, and early detection. We recognize that health is not only physical. It is also emotional and mental.
As we engage communities across South Carolina and raise awareness about the five screenable cancers, one important theme continues to emerge: fear.
Many individuals experience fear about going to the doctor, fear of the unknown, and fear of what test results may reveal. These feelings are real and can sometimes prevent people from seeking care, scheduling screenings, or following up on important health concerns.
To help address these challenges, the South Carolina Cancer Alliance has incorporated a behavioral health component into its work, ensuring individuals receive support for both their physical and emotional well-being throughout the cancer journey.
Supporting the Whole Person
Through this initiative, the South Carolina Cancer Alliance partners with Behavioral Health Consultant Angie Woods to provide compassionate, supportive services to individuals in need.
This partnership allows us to offer free counseling services to eligible individuals who may be:
- Newly diagnosed with cancer
- Currently undergoing treatment
- Navigating survivorship
- Experiencing emotional challenges related to a cancer diagnosis or cancer-related concerns
These services are designed to help individuals process emotions, manage anxiety, develop coping strategies, and build confidence as they move through their cancer journey.
Why Behavioral Health Matters
Cancer impacts more than the body. It can affect relationships, daily routines, emotional health, and overall quality of life.
By integrating behavioral health into our cancer prevention and awareness efforts, we aim to:
- Reduce fear and anxiety surrounding cancer and cancer screening
- Build trust and confidence in seeking care
- Support emotional wellness throughout the cancer journey
- Connect individuals with resources that promote overall well-being
- Ensure people feel seen, heard, and supported
Our goal is to help individuals navigate cancer-related challenges with the knowledge, resources, and emotional support they need to move forward with confidence.
Support Is Available
